Buyer beware! We call it “ kitchen table divorce ” or “ Do-It-Yourself-Divorce ” and it often leads to failure. Filing for divorce can be a complicated matter because so many government forms and affidavits are required. We see too many individuals and couples who have tried to use the self-help books available on the market, and we’ve come to the conclusion that the majority of them are simply throwing their money away.

If one does not know the difference between a sole and joint application, then it is a daunting task to figure out the rest of the paper work. So, they end up coming to us for help.

Online Companies

This could be said for many of the online companies who offer “cheap, affordable divorce with a 100% guarantee.” We have had some of their clients come to us to finish what those companies could not do. It’s not that simple and easy to “ untie the knot ,” nor trust them to give you a “ reliable divorce .”

So, this is a precautionary alert to anyone contemplating buying these books or using online companies – take a good look first and do your research!

The desk order divorce process allows you to obtain a final order for divorce without ever having to appear in court… ”

So, understand what you are buying and be careful when it comes to separation and divorce. There is a lot of self-help information out there and each gives you options to choose from as you move forward independent of each other. These options range from kitchen table divorce to using expensive divorce lawyers. If you both use a lawyer who is acting as a mediator, that lawyer can NOT give you legal advice. A lawyer can only represent one person.
